Playa Coral (Coral beach)

Opening hours: 9 am to 5 pm

This is the nearest place from Varadero to enjoy good shore-snorkeling and see a wide variety of fish and corals. Playa Coral is located on the old coastal road approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) west of Varadero, on the way to Matanzas City.

If you have your own gear you can choose to snorkel solo from the beach, or you can go to the “Laguna de Maya” entrance where you can rent snorkeling gear (2 USD) and/or a guide who can help you discover this large barrier reef. A one-hour tour with a professional Ecotur guide costs only 5 USD; It’s well worth the money.

You can also find on-site a bar and restaurant, boat rental, and horseback riding. Playa Coral is a popular stop in many of the excursions offered from Varadero, but if you prefer to go by yourself and want to avoid the tour groups, then it’s better to go in the morning or late afternoon.
